As part of an effort to engage a younger crowd than is usual for PBS, WEDU started an event series called Brews & Tunes. Each event takes place on a Friday night, has a nostalgic PBS-related theme, and is located at a local brewery. The events are family friendly, and included fun for all ages. The first event was “It’s A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood” (Mister Rogers) and the second was “Happy Little Trees” (Bob Ross). Both events were held at 81Bay Brewing in Tampa, and also featured local artists and musicians performing. At the Mister Rogers night, guests had the opportunity to receive a free drink if they showed up in a red cardigan, as an ode to Fred Rogers’ sweaters. At the Bob Ross event, guests could take photos with a Bob Ross standee and painting props. Food trucks were on site for anyone who got hungry, and Creative Loafing joined the project as a sponsor. (The events will eventually continue, but unfortunately had to be put on hold because of COVID-19.)
Because it was a brand new campaign, we needed branding for the series. I wanted something fun and family-friendly, and came up with this logo:
I designed half-letter size flyers for each event, which were distributed throughout local universities, young professionals groups, and more places in the community targeting the 21-45 demographic:
In addition to the flyers, WEDU hung posters around the community to advertise the event:
And of course no bar is complete without coasters! We brought some of our own along for the events for guests to use and take home:
