WEDU PBS is heavily involved with nonprofits all over its 16-county area in West Central Florida. As a way to honor the selfless efforts of nonprofits around our community, WEDU holds the Be More Awards each February. This luncheon ceremony awards local nonprofits in each of fourteen different categories, for everything from “Be More Enriched” (Arts & Culture Award) to “Be More Relevant” (Best Use of Video) to “Be More Inspiring” (Rising Star Award) and more.
For the 2015 Be More Awards, I was tasked with creating the branding and style guide from scratch. I used four-pointed diamond shapes to allude to the vintage WEDU TV station logo…
…and ‘flowers’ (created by the negative space between repeated diamonds) as the main design elements. The colors were taken from the tertiary branding colors of the then-upcoming national PBS rebrand, so that the local Be More Awards and general PBS branding would coexist well.
Here are some social media badges and graphics, designed to be posted and shared by the organizations named as Finalists. The white space is where the Finalist can put their logo or a photo.
Some of the award categories get voted on by the public, so it’s important for competing nonprofits to drum up support online. These are some social media badges and graphics, designed to be posted and shared by the organizations who were Finalists in a voting category.
Throughout the award season, WEDU does a big push on social media to raise awareness for the Be More Awards. I created graphics for Facebook (cover and posts), Twitter (cover and posts), Instagram, and the WEDU homepage (wedu.org). These are just a sampling of the vast array of graphics for advertising on social media.
Ahead of the Awards ceremony, WEDU sends out hundreds of Save-the-Date postcards. The ticketed event draws a crowd of 500-600, many of whom will have received one of these in the mail.
The Be More Awards Hall of Heroes is a networking event which takes place before the actual award luncheon and ceremony. Sponsors and finalists set up trade show-esque displays in a large hall at the event location, and give out goodies and business cards as they meet new people and make new friends. This easel stands at the entrance, marking the Hall.
Because the Be More Awards is a prestigious ceremony, WEDU invites some major donors, board members, and other VIPs. These are the front of the invitation and RSVP cards.
Outside the event venue, guests are greeted by this A-frame “Welcome!” sign. As part of the sponsorship packages, we include all sponsor logos on a lot of the advertising and promotions ahead of and at the event.
I also designed the program book for the luncheon and ceremony. The 26 page booklet is given to every guest at the event, and contains a list of all the awards and their explanations, as well as sponsor ads, host bios, and the luncheon menu.
